YORKSHIRE OVER 55’s (SENIORS) DELEGATES SPRING MEETING on Sunday 6th April 2008 at York IBC at 10.30 am. MINUTES Present 14 including delegates from New Earswick, York, Redcar, Hornsea, Harrogate, South Leeds, Metrodome, Scarborough, Featherstone and Selby Apologies North Cave and Doncaster Absent Thornaby, Hull, Huddersfield, Ryedale and Saltburn Barry Johnson, Chairman, welcomed all present. Obituaries none Minutes of the 2007 Spring Meeting were accepted. Matters Arising (i) There had been no interest from other counties regarding playing B team matches (ii) Similarly there was no interest in replacing the meal with tea/coffee and scones (iii) We held a raffle at all our home matches and raised £170 which, as agreed at the 2007 meeting, went towards meeting the costs of the Challenge Trophy day. We were able as a result to charge £8.50 per player instead of the £10 as in all four previous years. Over 55s League Les Bingley congratulated Featherstone and Doncaster (Div 1 Winners and Runners up) and Hull and Redcar (Div 2 Winners and Runners up). Both divisions had very close and competitive finishes. One game, with the approval of the Seniors Officers, was played a few days late. It was agreed that an addition to the league rules should read If an end is killed after the four hour time limit has expired then that end shall not be replayed.’ Thanks were given to Ian Clough for all his work in collating and disseminating results. Secretary’s Report Previously circulated. There were no matters arising. Challenge Trophy Congratulations to Featherstone (Winners) and Doncaster (Runners up). Agreed that the event be played at Scarborough on Thursday 2nd April 2009 Agreed that the dress for this day be all whites or whites with club shirt. All players from the same club to be dressed the same. Midland League We won the League without losing a match. PL to contact The Midland League secretary to find out if we pay for the badges and bars. It was reported that Derbyshire may withdraw from the League. Agreed to play the fixture v Warwickshire at Selby in 2009. It is our turn to provide a Chairman for the Midland Senior League. Barry Johnson was elected unanimously Northern Counties League Our worst season ever we lost all four games and finished last. Agreed that if Cumbria re-join the NC League next season then we recommend we play each county once on a 4 Rinks at home 4 away basis or 8 rinks one year at home and the next year away. EIBA Over 60s Liberty Competition. Delegates were generally of the opinion that the fixture list is becoming overcrowded. At the moment we play 5 MC, 4 NC, 2 Friendlies add on 3/4more for Over 60s Liberty and 2 for NC should Cumbria re-join = 16/17 matches. This would reduce if we didn’t play Lincolnshire, played 3 NC matches and one in the Over 60s Liberty = 10/11 matches at 2 a month. Following concern at the idea of a round robin format in the initial stages of this Over 60s Liberty competition which would mean playing an extra 3 or 4 matches it was agreed we should support playing a straight KO format. Election of Officers The following were elected unanimously ChairmanBarry Johnson SecretaryGraham Lockwood League SecretaryLes Bingley Agreed that a Captain for the day’ at home and away be responsible for the match day collection of fees, raffle, scorecards, after match speech and so on. Election of Selectors 4 needed in addition to the Chairman and Secretary. 2 had nominated and a further 3 nominations were made from the floor. After a paper ballot the following were elected Malcolm Coupland (Metrodome), Bill Waldie (New Earswick), Harry Petty (Featherstone) and John Harrand (Selby) Agreed that, if a selector misses three selection meetings then he ceases to be a selector. Proposal A Agreed to ask clubs to avoid fixing Over 55 league matches on Senior County match days Proposal B Agreed that, given YCIBA Executive approval, any bowler on reaching his 55th birthday shall be eleigible to play for his club’s Over 55 team and for Yorkshire County Seniors. Any Other Business Thanks were given to Peter Lees for his work as secretary over the last three years. A discussion on selection processes followed. It was stated that teams were picked on availability and merit. It was not always possible to achieve consistency if players were unavailable or withdrew after being selected or suffered a loss of form. We had used 49 bowlers in the Midland County matches. Considering we won the league without losing a match and, over the last 6 years, had won the title 3 times and been runners up three times then perhaps the selectors were doing a good job. YCIBA were proposing to introduce a County shirt for the U25s and the Seniors. One was shown at the meeting and met with general approval. The cost would be around £14. Clubs are to be asked to submit their views on the viability of such a shirt which would have Yorkshire County Seniors’ on the badge as early as possible and at the latest before the YCIBA Executive meeting on May 11th Donation to Yorkshire Umpire Association As we had £10 left over from the Challenge Day and as Eric Tomlinson had umpired all our home games without claiming expenses, it was agreed to donate that £10 to the Yorks Umpires Association. Date of next meeting on a Saturday or Sunday in September to be announced.
